This Privacy Policy explains how Btown Events ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our event discovery and notification service (the "Service").

Information We Collect

We collect only what's necessary to deliver personalized event recommendations:

• Email address — required to create an account and receive recommendations.
• Phone number — optional. Collected only if you choose to provide it and check the SMS consent box.
• Event preferences — categories you select, events you save or heart, and taste-profile text you write.
• Usage data — pages visited, filters clicked, and events viewed, collected anonymously via analytics tools (PostHog). This data is not linked to your name.

We do not collect payment information, government IDs, or sensitive personal data.

How We Use Your Information

• To send curated event recommendation emails tailored to your interests and location.
• To send SMS text message alerts if you have opted in.
• To remember your preferences so recommendations improve over time.
• To understand aggregate usage patterns and improve the Service (anonymized analytics only).

We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing or advertising purposes. Full stop.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the Service:

• Twilio — SMS delivery. Your phone number is transmitted to Twilio to send text messages if you have opted in. Twilio's privacy policy governs their use of this data.
• PostHog — Anonymous usage analytics. No personally identifiable information is shared.
• Google Fonts — Font delivery via CDN. Standard browser request metadata may be collected by Google.

These services are used solely to operate the Service and are bound by their own privacy policies.

SMS Opt-Out

If you have opted in to SMS, you may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any text message we send. You will receive a confirmation message and no further texts will be sent. You can also remove your phone number on your preferences page.

Email Opt-Out

You may unsubscribe from emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or visiting your preferences page. Opting out of email does not affect any SMS subscription, and vice versa.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you unsubscribe, your email preferences are updated but your account record is retained for a reasonable period to honor your unsubscribe request and prevent accidental re-subscription.

Your Rights and Data Deletion

You may request deletion of all your personal data at any time. Email us at hello@btownevents.com with "Delete my account" in the subject line. We will process your request within 30 days and confirm by email when complete.

Cookies and Local Storage

The Service uses browser localStorage to remember your city preference and authentication token. No tracking cookies are set on your device. You can clear this data by clearing your browser's local storage.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
